Pastured Pork

Our pigs are raised outside in the fresh air and sunshine – never in a barn. They are rotated through lush, diverse pastures where they can exhibit their natural instincts like rooting, grazing, and building wallows. They receive a daily ration of organic wheat, oats, peas, and flax that we source from local farmers and grind on farm.

We raise Berkshire pigs – the oldest identifiable hog breed, dating back to England in the 1600s. They were so coveted for the quality of their meat, that Berkshires were raised nearly exclusively by the British Royal Family. Berkshire pork consistently places first compared to other pork breeds in flavour, texture, marbling, and moisture. The flavour profile of Berkshire pork is described as elegant and smooth, one that is robust, sweet, buttery, slightly earthy, and melts in your mouth.

Pastured pigs have higher levels of monounsaturated fat - the same fat found in abundance in avocado and olive oil that gives these foods a "heart healthy" designation. Our pigs are raised on pasture and receive plenty of sunshine, making their meat and fat richer in micronutrients, particularly fat-soluble vitamins E and D, and minerals. Pigs make vitamin D in their skin and in their fat when exposed to sunlight, making
pasture-raised pork one of the top foods rich in naturally-occurring vitamin D.
